Prelude (Read Second)

THE PRELUDE

Thanks to the remarkable work of Avatars Aang and Korra, the world entered an era of peace that had not been seen in almost six hundred years. Korra's successor, Avatar Tarin, enjoyed a peaceful life free of great disaster or civil unrest. Technology continued to improve, adding to the comfort of everyone's lives. Famine became increasingly rare, cures for disease and ailments were being discovered on a regular basis, and benders and non-benders were working together to make the world a better place. Everything was perfect.

Because of their prosperous lifestyles, the people of the world slowly cared less and less about the Avatar. Not that they hated him or wanted him gone of course. It was because of both him and their hard work that they were able to enjoy the world they lived in. They just... didn't feel like he was necessary anymore. He had done his job so well that humanity was able to evolve to a state beyond the hardship they'd once endured. No longer would they turn on each other and hate for petty reasons. They understood the concept of harmony and that everyone needed to be treated fairly in order to secure the future they worked so hard to achieve.

The feeling was so prevalent among the people of the world that even the Avatar's next incarnation grew up putting her Avatar duties on the back burner. What was the point in putting gratuitous amounts of effort into skills that would never be needed?

But as a wise man once said, "All good things must come to an end."
